Founded in 2006 by Ron Sachs of Sachs Media, the Best & Brightest Awards is designed to recognize and honor Leon County’s excelling high school seniors. Unlike most scholarship programs, awards are not based solely on GPA. The varying categories of the Best & Brightest Awards allow students who excel in a particular field to be rewarded for their hard work and dedication. There is also an emphasis on community service and civic duty. Fifteen years ago, the Best & Brightest Awards added an additional element, the 8th Grade Essay Contest. This contest is integral in catching the attention of younger students in Leon County and instilling the importance of community service before they begin their high school careers. The scholarship program is a partnership between the local Leon County area public and private schools, Sachs Media, Envision Credit Union, Tallahassee Democrat and World Class Schools of Leon County.
